About 4 to 5 years ago, I connected with many people around the world on Facebook, fascinated by different places and cultures. During this time, I adopted two young men from Tanzania as my sons.
They were emotionally struggling and uncertain about their direction in life, much like many of us have been. We became an emotional support family for each other, and their strength and support were invaluable to me, especially during the loss of my mom.
One of them, Benson Mtui, has been working hard to build his Happy Kilimanjaro Trekking and Safari company. When the pandemic hit, he faced uncertainty and decided to work in Dubai's restaurants, where he experienced isolation and harsh conditions. Despite these challenges, I encouraged him to take small steps every day toward his goals. Recently, he told me, "Mom, I can't believe I got this far." His perseverance through hardship has been remarkable.
Another young man, Berakah, has also faced struggles. Despite limited resources, he managed to enroll in safari school and creatively fund his education. I’m incredibly proud of his determination and growth. He’s been dealing with altitude sickness from guiding treks but remains committed to his goals.
Their resilience and intelligence inspire me and are part of the reason I became a travel agent. I want to support their journeys and help them build a better future. When foreign companies come to Tanzania, they often exploit local workers, paying them little and deducting costs like uniforms from their wages. Benson and Berakah are working to change this by offering travel experiences that genuinely connect you with Tanzania, emphasizing purpose and authenticity.
These young men have not given up, and their determination motivates me as well. They remind me that if I can keep moving forward, they have the world ahead of them. Sometimes, we all need encouragement to pursue our dreams.
If you want to experience the real Tanzania and travel with purpose, please contact me or them. Thank you for allowing me to share the stories of these two brave young men.
